Periana Verdial Olive Oil Day

One of the Axarquía’s most traditional products is verdial olive oil, a variety deeply rooted in the area. Once the harvest is complete – the latest in the province – the municipality of Periana is celebrating “Verdial Olive Oil Day” with a massive olive oil tasting event.

The oil is produced in the two olive oil mills in the municipality, San José Artesano in Mondrón, and San Isidro in the village of Periana, On that day, visitors have the opportunity to purchase, in addition to olive oil, a range of other products typical of the Alta Axarquía, such as sweets, muscatel wine, raisins and nuts. Visitors can also tour the premises, where traditional tools and equipment used in olive oil production are on display.

The day begins with a traditional a miller’s breakfast of bread and olive oil and continues with food tastings, craft and art exhibitions, demonstrations of traditional trades and performances by verdiales groups. During the festival, the Verdial Oil Awards, which recognise individuals and organisations for their contribution to the development and promotion of the municipality.

It is one of the most important culinary events in the province of Málaga, where visitors can also enjoy traditional verdiales music. Provincial Tourist Attraction
